About the Author. Umm Zakiyyah was born in 1975 in Long Island, New York to formerly Christian parents who accepted Islam after spending years in the Nation of Islam. She is the recipient of the 2008 Muslim Girls Unity Conference Distinguished Authors Award and is currently an American education consultant in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
